The Piece Hall, a market built in 1779 On Friday we went to Halifax for an Antiques Fair and spent the day checking out the city. Lovely start to Easter weekend!
Another broken billboard from the Conservatives--we need to sort out our billboards, hahaha! The campaign season has started already, but the election hasn't even been called yet. According to my "insider sources," they'll call it next Tuesday for May 6th. I'm really excited to be involved in an election campaign abroad! Richard bought this lovely mantle clock on eBay last weekend and it came today--it's an 8-day wind-up from 1937 and it has a pretty Westminster chime. It chimes loudly every 15 minutes, though, so we might have to adjust that... But it's a beautiful addition to the living room!
First game results--my high score of the night! Richard won the second game, so we played a deciding third game... ...and the competition made us both do worse! But I won, best out of 3. And then Richard beat me at air hockey (7-3) Hollywood Bowl is pretty great--it's down by the movie theater in Kirkstall, and it's got 32 lanes, a bar/restaurant area, and a big arcade. I thought it wouldn't be as good as American bowling alleys, but it was actually better!
Leeds North West Constituency Office in Holt Park (basically in a strip mall) The Council called this area a "plaza"...and they want to build more shops Skipton town centre It always seems to be market day when we go there...they have markets on Mon, Wed, Fri and Saturday. Leeds Liverpool Canal
Crocuses on the way to campus Otley town centre's jubilee clock, built in 1888 to commemorate Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee (1887) Massive car boot fair held at the Wharfedale Farmers Auction Mart (livestock market)
One of the Victorian buildings on Albion Place Conservative party billboard--the funny part is that the billboard has a broken panel, and it talks about our "broken society"! The country around Goodrich Castle in Herefordshire where we had a picnic St John the Baptist church in Cardiff Jamie's Italian--Cardiff's newly renovated downtown has a Jamie Oliver restaurant! It's really improved since I was here the last time! Gardens at St Fagan's National History Museum Thatching in process According to the sign, this is Wales' smallest post office. Motorway services in Herefordshire, just over the border back to England.
The weather's finally improving a bit, so we went out to Otley Chevin Park today for a hike up to a view, and then a walk around Otley. On Saturday we went to the York Railway Museum again and saw some of the exhibits we'd missed last time.
